And Yisra’el departed, he and all that he had, and came to Be’er-Sheva [the well of the oath]; and he offered sacrifice to the Elohim of his father Yitzchak [Isaac].
And Elohim spoke to Yisra’el in a night vision, saying, “Ya’akov, Ya’akov.” And he said, “Hineni [Here I am].”
And He said, “I am the Elohim of your fathers; fear not to go down into Mitzrayim [Egypt], for I will make you there into a great nation.
And I will go down with you into Mitzrayim, and I will also surely bring you up again; and Yosef shall put his hands upon your eyes.”
And Ya’akov rose up from Be’er-Sheva; and the sons of Yisra’el carried their father, their little ones, and their wives in the wagons which Yosef had sent to carry them.
And they took their cattle and their goods, which they had acquired in the land of Kena’an, and came into Mitzrayim — Ya’akov and all his seed with him.
His sons, and his sons’ sons with him; his daughters, and his daughters’ daughters; all his seed he brought with him into Mitzrayim.
And these are the names of the sons of Yisra’el who came into Mitzrayim, Ya’akov and his sons: the firstborn of Ya’akov, Reuven [Ruben].
And the sons of Reuven: Chanokh [Enoch], Pallu [Phallou], Hetzron [Asron], and Karmi [Charmi].
And the sons of Shimon [Symeon]: Yemuel [Jemuel], Yamin [Jamin], Ohad [Aod], Yachin [Achin], Tzochar [Saar], and Shaul, the son of a Kena’anite [Canaanite] woman.
And the sons of Levi: Gershon [Gerson], Kehat [Cath], and Merari.
And the sons of Yehudah [Judas]: Er, Onan [Aunan], Shelah [Selom], Peretz [Phares], and Zerah [Zara]; but Er and Onan died in the land of Kena’an.
And the sons of Peretz: Hetzron [Esron] and Hamul [Jemuel]. And the sons of Yissakhar [Issachar]: Tola [Thola], Puah [Phua], Yov [Asum], and Shimron [Sambran].
And the sons of Zevulun [Zabulun]: Sered, Elon [Allon], and Yachle’el [Achoel].
These are the sons of Leah, whom she bore to Ya’akov in Paddan-Aram [Mesopotamia of Syria], and Dinah his daughter; all the souls of his sons and daughters were thirty-three.
And the sons of Gad: Tzifyon [Saphon], Chaggi [Angis], Shuni [Sannis], Etzbon [Thasoban], Eri [Aedis], Arodi [Aroedis], and Areli [Areelis].
And the sons of Asher [Aser]: Yimnah [Jemna], Yishvah [Jessua], Yishvi [Jeul], Beriah [Baria], and Serach [Sara] their sister. And the sons of Beriah: Chever [Chobor] and Malkiel [Melchiil].
These are the sons of Zilpah [Zelpha], whom Lavan gave to his daughter Leah; she bore these to Ya’akov, sixteen souls.
The sons of Rachel, Ya’akov’s wife: Yosef and Binyamin.
And to Yosef in the land of Mitzrayim were born sons, whom Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera [Petephres], kohen [priest] of On [Heliopolis], bore to him: Menasheh [Manasses] and Ephrayim [Ephraim]. And to Menasheh was born Machir, son of an Aramit (Syrian) concubine; and Machir begot Gil’ad [Galaad]. And the sons of Ephrayim, brother of Menasheh: Shuthelach [Sutalaam] and Tahan [Taam]. And the son of Shuthelach: Eran [Edom].
And the sons of Binyamin: Bela [Bala], Becher [Bochor], and Ashbel [Asbel]. And the sons of Bela: Gera, Na’aman [Noeman], Ehi [Anchis], Rosh [Ros], and Muppim [Mamphim]. And Gera begot Arad.
These are the sons of Rachel, who were born to Ya’akov; all the souls were eighteen.
And the sons of Dan: Hushim [Asom].
And the sons of Naphtali [Nephthalim]: Yahze’el [Asiel], Guni [Goni], Yitzhar [Issaar], and Shillem [Sollem].
These are the sons of Bilhah [Balla], whom Lavan gave to his daughter Rachel; she bore these to Ya’akov, seven souls.
All the souls who came with Ya’akov into Mitzrayim, who came out of his loins, besides the wives of Ya’akov’s sons, were sixty-six souls.
And the sons of Yosef, who were born to him in the land of Mitzrayim, were nine souls; all the souls of the house of Ya’akov who came into Mitzrayim were seventy-five souls.
And he sent Yehudah before him to Yosef, to meet him at the city of Goshen [Heroes/Ramesses].
And Yosef made ready his chariot, and went up to meet Yisra’el his father at Goshen; and he appeared to him, and fell on his neck, and wept with abundant weeping.
And Yisra’el said to Yosef, “Now let me die, since I have seen your face, because you are yet alive.”
And Yosef said to his brothers, “I will go up and tell Pharaoh, and will say to him, ‘My brothers and my father’s house, who were in the land of Kena’an, have come to me.
And the men are shepherds, for they have been keepers of livestock; and they have brought their flocks, their herds, and all that they have.’
And it shall come to pass, when Pharaoh calls you and says, ‘What is your occupation?’
You shall say, ‘Your servants have been herdsmen from our youth even until now, both we and our fathers,’ that you may dwell in the land of Goshen; for every shepherd is an [abomination/detestable thing] to the Egyptians.”
