Bereshit (Genesis)

Ch. 13 / 50
1Avram went up out of Mitzrayim [Egypt], he and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the Negev wilderness. 2Avram was very rich in livestock, kesef [silver/money], and gold. 3He journeyed back to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Beit-El [Bethel] and Ai, 4To the place of the mizbeach [altar] which he had made there at first. There Avram called on the Name of Yahuah. 5Lot, who went with Avram, also had flocks, herds, and tents. 6The land could not support them dwelling together, for their possessions were great, and they could not remain together. 7There was strife between the herdsmen of Avram’s livestock and the herdsmen of Lot’s livestock. The Kena’anim [Canaanites] and the Perizzites were dwelling in the land at that time. 8Avram said to Lot: “Let there be no strife between me and you, and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen, for we are achim [brothers]. 9Is not the whole land before you? Separate yourself from me. If you go to the left, I will go to the right; if you go to the right, I will go to the left.” 10Lot lifted up his eyes and saw all the plain of the Yarden [Jordan], that it was well watered everywhere — before Yahuah destroyed Sedom [Sodom] and Amorah [Gomorrah] — like the Gan Yahuah [Garden of Yahuah], like the land of Mitzrayim, as you go toward Tzoar [Zoar]. 11Lot chose for himself all the plain of the Yarden, and Lot journeyed east. Thus they separated from each other. 12Avram dwelt in the land of Kena’an, while Lot dwelt among the cities of the plain and pitched his tent near Sedom. 13But the men of Sedom were exceedingly ra [wicked/evil] and chata’im [sinful/missing the mark] against Yahuah. 14Yahuah said to Avram, after Lot had separated from him: “Lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are — northward, southward, eastward, and westward. 15For all the land that you see I will give to you and to your zera [seed/descendants]forever. 16I will make your zera like the afar ha’aretz [dust of the earth]; if anyone can count the dust of the earth, then your seed also shall be counted. 17Arise, walk through the land in its length and breadth, for I will give it to you.” 18Avram moved his ohel [tent] and came to dwell by the oaks of Mamre, which are in Chevron [Hebron]. There he built a mizbeach to Yahuah.
