Bereshit (Genesis)

Ch. 4 / 50
1And Adam knew Chavah [Eve] his wife, and she conceived and bore Qayin [Cain], and said, “I have gained an ish [man] through YAHUAH.” 2And she again bore his brother Hevel [Abel]. And Hevel was a keeper of sheep, but Qayin was a tiller of the ground. 3And it came to pass after yamim [days], that Qayin brought of the fruits of the ground a minchah [offering/present] to Yahuah. 4And Hevel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat portions; and Elohim looked upon Hevel and his gifts. 5But Qayin and his offering He did not regard; and Qayin was exceedingly sorrowful, and his countenance fell. 6And YAHUAH Elohim said to Qayin, “Why are you very sorrowful, and why has your countenance fallen? 7Have you not sinned if you brought it rightly, but did not rightly divide it? Be still; to you shall be his submission, and you shall rule over him.” (LXX wording preserved — not the Masoretic form) 8And Qayin said to Hevel his brother, “Let us go out into the field.” And it came to pass, when they were in the field, Qayin rose up against Hevel his brother and slew him. 9And YAHUAH Elohim said to Qayin, “Where is Hevel your brother?” And he said, “I do not know; am I my brother's keeper?” 10And Yahuah said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood cries to Me from the ground. 11And now you are cursed from the earth, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand. 12When you till the ground, it shall no longer yield its strength to you; you shall be a fugitive and a wanderer upon the earth.” 13And Qayin said to Yahuah Elohim, “My avon [guilt/iniquity] is too great for me to be forgiven.” 14Behold, You have driven me out this Yom [day] from the face of the earth, and I shall be hidden from Your presence; I shall be a fugitive and a wanderer upon the earth, and it will be that whoever finds me will kill me.” 15And YAHUAH Elohim said to him, “Not so; whoever kills Qayin, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold.” And Yahuah set a mark upon Qayin, lest anyone finding him should kill him. 16So Qayin went out from the presence of Elohim, and dwelt in the land of Nod, east of Eden. 17And Qayin knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Chanokh [Enoch]; and he built a city, and called the name of the city after the name of his son, Chanokh. 18And to Chanokh was born Irad [Gaidad]; and Irad begot Mechuya’el [Maleleel]; and Mechuya’el begot Metusha’el [Mathusala]; and Metusha’el begot Lamech. 19And Lamech took two wives; the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other was Tzillah [Sella]. 20And Adah bore Yaval [Jobel]; he was the father of those who dwell in tents and have livestock. 21And the name of his brother was Yuval [Jubal]; he was the father of all who play the lyre and pipe. 22And Tzillah bore Tuval-Qayin [Thobel], the forger of every cutting instrument of bronze and iron; and the sister of Tuval-Qayin was Na’amah [Noëma]. 23And Lamech said to his wives, Adah and Tzillah, “Hear my voice, you wives of Lamech; listen to my words: I have slain a man for wounding me, and a young man for striking me. 24If Qayin shall be avenged sevenfold, then Lamech seventy times seven.” 25And Adam knew Chavah his wife again, and she bore a son, and called his name Shet [Seth], saying, “For Elohim has appointed me another zera [seed/descendant] instead of Hevel, whom Qayin slew.” 26And to Shet also was born a son, and he called his name Enosh; then men began to call upon the name of Yahuah Elohim.
