Bereshit (Genesis)

Ch. 45 / 50
1And Yosef could not refrain himself when all were standing by him, but said, “Dismiss all from me.” And no one stood near Yosef when he made himself known to his brothers. 2And he lifted up his voice with weeping; and all the Egyptians heard, and the report was carried into the house of Pharaoh. 3And Yosef said to his brothers, “I am Yosef; does my father yet live?” And his brothers could not answer him, for they were troubled at his presence. 4And Yosef said to his brothers, “Draw near to me.” And they drew near. And he said, “I am your brother Yosef, whom you sold into Mitzrayim [Egypt]. 5Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves that you sold me here; for Elohim sent me before you to preserve life. 6For these two years the famine has been in the land, and there are yet five years in which there will be neither plowing nor harvest. 7And Elohim sent me before you to preserve for you a She’erit [remnant] in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance. 8So now it was not you who sent me here, but Elohim; and He has made me as a father to Pharaoh, lord of all his house, and ruler over all the land of Mitzrayim. 9Hasten, and go up to my father, and say to him, “Thus says your son Yosef: Elohim has made me lord of all Mitzrayim; come down to me, do not delay. 10And you shall dwell in the land of Goshen, and you shall be near me, you and your sons, and your sons’ sons, your flocks and your herds, and all that you have. 11And I will provide for you there; for there are yet five years of famine, lest you and your household and all that you have come to poverty.” 12“Behold, your eyes see, and the eyes of my brother Binyamin, that it is my mouth that speaks to you. 13Tell my father of all my glory in Mitzrayim, and of all that you have seen; and make haste, and bring my father down here.” 14And he fell upon his brother Binyamin’s neck and wept; and Binyamin wept upon his neck. 15And he kissed all his brothers and wept upon them; and after that his brothers spoke with him. 16And the report was heard in Pharaoh’s house, saying, “Yosef’s brothers have come.” And it pleased Pharaoh and his servants. 17And Pharaoh said to his brothers, “Say to your brothers, Do this: load your beasts and go, return to the land of Kena’an. 18And take your father and your households, and come to me; and I will give you the best of the land of Mitzrayim, and you shall eat the fat of the land. 19And you are commanded, Do this: take wagons out of the land of Mitzrayim for your little ones and for your wishes, and bring your father, and come. 20And regard not your goods, for the best of all the land of Mitzrayim is yours.” 21And the sons of Yisra’el did so; and Yosef gave them wagons, according to the command of Pharaoh, and gave them provision for the way. 22To all of them he gave each two changes of garments; but to Binyamin he gave three hundred shekels [pieces] of silver and five changes of garments. 23And to his father he sent likewise: ten donkeys loaded with the good things of Mitzrayim, and ten mules loaded with grain and bread and provision for his father for the journey. 24And he sent his brothers away, and they departed; and he said to them, “Do not quarrel on the way.” 25And they went up out of Mitzrayim, and came into the land of Kena’an to Ya’akov their father. 26And they told him, saying, “Yosef is yet alive, and he is ruler over all the land of Mitzrayim.” And Ya’akov’s heart fainted, for he did not believe them. 27But when they told him all the words of Yosef which he had spoken to them, and when he saw the wagons which Yosef had sent to carry him, the ruach [spirit] of Ya’akov their father revived. 28And Yisra’el said, “It is enough; Yosef my son is yet alive. I will go and see him before I die.”
